A thin, tall marble statue dedicated to all First Nation people that died defending Canada was unveiled Saturday at Fairfield Museum.
The Portuguese-marble statue features the 'death face'' of a warrior, according to Jim Wellheiser of Ayr, a member of a re-enactment group that helped finance the new art-piece.
He said the group responsible for acquiring the statue is known as On-Gwe-Ho- Way -- 'the people of turtle island.''
Wellheiser said the statue was purchased from a carver on the Six Nations Reserve without financial support from the government.
'And we're here today to give it a royal 21-gun salute,'' he said
