It's not quite and our flag was still there, but if you're looking for a small moment of grace in the Galveston coverage this morning, the Poop Deck has it.
The Associated Press has sent the above photo around the world on its wires this morning. One of the first shots from Galveston as the storm moved on this morning, local knowledge or zooming in shows the building pictured to be the Poop Deck, described in The New York Times in the last day as a biker bar just stumbling distance from the waterfront.
The serious degree of damage in the photo is obvious, but zooming in further reveals what's at the far end of the bar's porch. Just as USA TODAY reported after Hurricane Rita in 2005, the seaside bar's human-size Statue of Liberty still stands after Ike. A zoomed-in picture is below. You can see the statue here under clearer skies, and here as Ike began to roil the Gulf of Mexico
