SYDNEY MINES Sports hero Johnny Miles is coming home to Sydney Mines.
A life-sized likeness of the two-time Boston Marathon winner will be unveiled Friday during a special ceremony on the grounds of Jubilee Elementary School.
Nova Scotia MP Peter MacKay said Tuesday the federal government, through Enterprise Cape Breton Corp., has contributed $48,000 to the project.
The statue will be part of a redeveloped town square in Sydney Mines, where Miles was raised.
Miles, who died in 2003 at the age of 97, broke the world record in his first Boston Marathon in 1926. He returned to run the marathon on four occasions, winning again in 1929
